8-9 Upper primary

During English language sessions, learners take part in exciting discovery-led activities, which focus on communication skills including reading and writing. These include: designing your own robot and writing a review of it, thinking of a new invention and presenting it to your class, making 3D shapes and hanging them in the classroom and thinking about patterns and symmetry to make costumes for a fashion show.

Lessons and activities are linked to the weekly project. To develop further critical thinking skills, English is learnt through a variety of disciplines such as geography, maths, science, art, drama and music as well as English classes.

Classes are connected to a weekly project or theme, which in turn is linked to the weekly excursion. Lessons offer opportunities for learners to expand their knowledge of different core subjects, communicate in English and take part in learner centred activities. Sports lessons combine a number of fun team games such as football, rounders and dodge ball.

Excursions take place in central London and provide an excellent opportunity for learners to learn outside the classroom, visit some of London’s famous museums and enjoy a day of authentic use of English. High ratios of staff supervision on all outside activities means that children are safe and secure throughout the school day.
